    In July 1930, Liu Manqing returned to Nanjing through India. On her way back, after tricking British customs officers and escaped their interrogation, fighting a battle of wits in India, and suffering hardships at sea, she finally delivered the letter and gifts from the 13th Dalai Lama to Chiang Kai-shek in Nanjing. As a result, she was honored by the National Government and welcomed warmly by people from all walks of life.
