When Liu Manqing first arrived in Jiangka (Mangkang), the family of a Tibetan officer called on her. Under the enthusiastic guidance of the officer, she met the battalion commander, head of the local garrison. After verifying her identity, the commander promised to report to the chief officer of Qamdo within six days, so that the chief officer could approve her visit to Qamdo. During her time in Jiangka, Liu Manqing received the hospitality of the battalion commander’s family. A neighbor even crawled to see her with the etiquette of the Qing dynasty.
