An old photo of Beijing
In 1918, when Liu Manqing was 12, she began to develop a sense of the nation. With her older brother and younger sister, she knelt in front of her father and asked to return to the motherland to see what it looked like. Her father was moved and took the whole family back to Shanghai in July of that year. Soon after, they moved to Beijing and lived in the Dongcheng District.
